Wonderful quality audience recording, soundboard quality. Recorded using a Walkman and separate microphone hung over the balcony right above the stage. “One of the Broken” split because of tape flip, “Cars and Girls” and “When Love Breaks Down” truncated as the taper was running out of tape. “Doo Wop in Harlem” presumed played as it was the usual closing song, but not recorded.

  1. I was at the Bradford gig, a great night and the only time i was lucky enough to see Prefab Sprout. Anyone know who the support band was for this tour/gig (possibly ‘Win’ or Trashcan Sinatras’?). Thsnks.

    1. It was Trashcan Sinatras as during Hey Manhattan Paddy sang the line “Just to think the Trashcans have played here too.”

    2. Support was Trashcan Sinatras. During ‘Hey Manhattan’ Paddy sang “Just to think the Trashcans played here too.”

  2. A brilliant gig, the only time i ever got to see Prefab Sprout, so close to the stage and hearing Bonny live was magical. I remember the keyboardist making funky moves, a quirky player yet it all sounded great. Great entertainment from start to the end and great support from the Trash Can Sinatras too and their debut album.

  3. Well done for taping this Rob. I was 18 and this was the only time I saw the band. I thought I’d be clever and shout out ‘Walk on’ at the end of ‘I remember that’. The band looked and smiled at each other, bemused someone should shout out for such an early b side, and then Paddy shouted out ‘Where are you from?’. Like a daft Yorkshireman I shouted out ‘Yorkshire’. You can hear me request ‘Walk On’ on this recording, but then Rob must have cut off the rest of the conversation as it then goes straight into Moving the River.

  4. Wow, never thought I would come across this as going through a Prefab appreciation phase. I was there to with my sister and managed to shake Wendy’s hand as I reached across the stage.

  5. I was there too, got the train from Leeds where I was at university. Yes it was the Trashcan Sinatras supporting and Doo Wop in Harlem was the final track, it haunts me still. It was a great gig, I’m so glad I saw them live. I’ve been a fan since the early 80s and come back to the music often. Paddy is a genius and the band were so talented.
