I noticed recently the video was shot in the Autumn or Winter. The trees in the background are all bare of leaves. Which probably explains the reluctance of the swimmer to dive in.
It’s a great song: much misunderstood. In hindsight “All my lazy teenage boasts/are now high precision ghosts” is Paddy’s autobiography neatly wrapped up. And who has missed the ABBA reference “Now the little birds have flown/and I’m dancing on my own”?
Little shafts of transcendence, yet all most people see are hot dogs and dancing frogs.
