Just a quick return to a previous subject. In the post relating to Kate Bush and the Artistic Legacy, I mentioned why I thought it was that Paddy hated completing things.
I came upon this interview snippet – one of Arnie’s – where Paddy makes the same point exactly. Now I had certainly heard that at some time so it would have been bubbling around in my subconscious, but I didn’t remember it specifically. I think it’s not an uncommon reaction to the act of completion though.
Or as Walter Benjamin put it: “The work is the death mask of its conception.”
