Paddy and Alan Hull on the Newcastle Pub Scene – circa 1984

hullNot altogether clear when this dates from, but by applying the inexact art of clairology to Paddy’s hairdo it’ll probably be 1984 or early 1985. It’s a short interview from the Tube, where Jools Holland talks to Paddy and Alan Hull of Lindisfarne about the pub music scene in Newcastle.

This might be the earliest interview on camera – there is supposedly one from a local news programme just prior to Swoon, but it’s not yet emerged into the public domain.

For those who don’t know Alan Hull, he wrote the most wonderful “Christmas” Song, “Winter Song”. Well worth looking that out, it’s not as well known as it should be.

  1. Goodness but he looks like Avalon days Paddy! So young! Hull and McAloon (and Sting) are the greatest of the rock talents the NE have produced in last 40 yrs? (ooops! Forgot Lanterns on the Lake! Greatest NE band since a long time!) Me
