Prefab Sprout were, it’s fair to say, a classic “Student Band” in their first recorded period. So it’s reasonable to go back and look in old Student Union newspapers, where alongside the Barclays boycotts, calls to anger over invasions of the rough students from Liverpool Poly trashing the campus, various causes du jour, and the first steps into journalism of many 18 to 21 year olds, are lots of references to the band.
This is by way of a sample of the material I’ve been able to find. It’s gloriously opinionated, horribly ephemeral: after all, who kept these? and a lovely little time capsule. If anyone should come across any more of this sort of thing I’d love to have them for the site.
There’s a fair mixture here: “Felix” from Imperial, Bangor, Surrey, Australia and Delaware in the US.
